One of Paramount Parks' most ambitious
theme park shows was Entertainment Tonight - based on the popular TV
show. In this production pre-recorded segments featuring the
hosts of Entertainment Tonight were combined with the action onstage
to create the impression that the audience was watching the taping
of a special episode of the show.
To get all of the action the designers wanted the stage
was raised by 2 feet to allow for a 12 foot wide turntable and
moving stage sections that could raise up perpendicular to the
stage. This was Paramount Productions Services' first foray
into the world of hydraulics and show control so we sent a
technician who had spent years on a family farm and was well versed
in hydraulic systems. This proved invaluable as he was able to
troubleshoot several major
problems
and insure that the show opened on time.
There were TV's mounted all around the set including a
wall of TV's that would drop in from
above which weighed over 2,000 lbs. We worked with the
designer of the theater's systems to make sure that the wall would
move smoothly and safely.
